Project Overview

Elmwood Protection Services recently completed the installation of a high-performance Rapid Roll Speed Door at IKEA. This upgrade was designed to streamline the process of returning shopping trolleys into the building during operational hours, significantly improving efficiency and staff convenience.

The Challenge

IKEA required a faster and more efficient solution for daytime trolley returns. The existing perimeter roller shutter, while effective for overnight security, was too slow for frequent daytime use—taking approximately 30 seconds to open and close each time. This delay was impacting staff productivity and operational flow.

Our Solution

Elmwood Protection Services proposed the installation of a Rapid Roll Speed Door to work in tandem with the existing shutter. The new door would remain in use during the day, while the original shutter would continue to provide security at night.

Key features of the solution included:

Speed: The Rapid Roll Speed Door opens in approximately 3 seconds, drastically reducing wait times.
Integration: The new door was installed behind the existing shutter, allowing seamless operation without compromising security.
Convenience: Staff can now return trolleys quickly and efficiently, improving workflow and reducing congestion at the entry point.

Execution

The project involved:
Site Assessment: Evaluating the existing shutter system and identifying the optimal location and configuration for the new door.
Planning & Coordination: Working closely with IKEA to ensure minimal disruption during installation.
Installation: Fitting the Rapid Roll Speed Door with precision, ensuring smooth integration with the existing infrastructure.
Testing: Conducting thorough operational and safety tests to ensure reliable performance.

Outcome

The new Rapid Roll Speed Door has transformed the trolley return process at IKEA. Staff can now move trolleys into the building in a fraction of the time, without waiting for the slower shutter to cycle. The dual-door setup maintains high security standards while enhancing daytime efficiency.
